SEEKING:
JANINE: Female. Caucasian. Early 60s. Janine is a well-traveled college professor at “an elite and storied research university in the Northeast.” She is a historian and teaches a specialized class on historical revolutions. She is proud of her ambition and high status as a woman working in a predominately male institution. She analyzes situations from every angle before reaching a conclusion, often playing devil’s advocate. She regularly goes the extra mile for her students. Tenured.
ZOE: Female. African-American. 19. Zoe is a sophomore at the university. Also ambitious, and also staggeringly intelligent, Zoe has a complex relationship with the university - loving academic work but feeling marginalized by the curriculum and the teachers - including Janine's whitewashed view of American history. A member of the Cross Cultural Alliance and a protest organizer, Zoe is feeling an increasing need to speak up about her frustrations. She isn't sure how much faith she has in the institution or the older generation, and this can make her willing to alienate people in order to stand up for what she sees as the truth.
