2018 SheNYC Arts Summer Theater Festival Casting Call
The SheNYC Summer Theater Festival is the only New York City festival devoted entirely to full-length plays AND musicals by women writers who make it to the top of our open submissions. Our third annual festival will be featuring eight brand new original works written by women and it's time to cast them!
Each show is responsible for their own rehearsal schedule and compensation. By auditioning, you are agreeing to be considered for any of the roles in any of the shows in the festival, however you may indicate a preference if one show interests you in particular. The festival will run July 5th-15th and we are accepting applicatoins from both Equity and non-Equity actors. SheNYC strives to be an all-inclusive organization and we encourage our casts to be as diverse as possible. We encourage all artists to apply regardless of gender, ethnicity, orientation, age, disability, etc.
Auditions will take place on Sunday May 6th and will be by appointment only

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE Rehearsals to begin around June 14 for two-three festival performances between July 5-15.
SHOW SYNOPSIS A musical inspired by the lives, loves and writings of two of the twentieth-century's greatest philosophical thinkers and founders of existentialism.
CHARACTERS Seeking four female and three male actors. Ages 20-35 all ethnicities. Accordian, percussion or guitar playing abilities a plus (but not required).
I’m Afraid of Death but not of Dying By Liza Summers
When hypochondriac Natalie falls in love with chronically ill Sam, she doesn’t know how to manage his Cystic Fibrosis. As their relationship begins to disintegrate amidst Sam’s new online relationship with another CF patient, Clara, the three young adults struggle to reconcile issues of communication, fear, and loneliness through short vignettes.

The Wife of Usher’s Well By Sophie Netanel
There is a wife who lives in Usher's well and she has three bonny sons. She is terrified of things unknown and sends her boys away for their own safety. Death comes for her sons and they are lost at sea. A young woman, Maeve, who loved the middle son, pledges to bring him back in any way she can, even if it means destroying the life she currently has. All the while on the edges of Usher's Well, Death and an old woman play out an old rivalry and, unbeknownst to her, Maeve is at the center of it all

Emily is a woman like many other women. She wants things she doesn’t have, and wishes she could want something else. She doesn’t know much about Betty Freidan or Gloria Steinem, and yet she wonders: is there anything more? OF FIRE AND FEMINISM follows Emily over the course of a year in which, under the influence of her girlfriends, her mother, a few strangers, and her local Librarian, she learns to understand her context in the evolution of women’s roles in American society and grapples with the role she wants to play herself.
